Scheduling

Do any of you have trouble scheduling this upcoming year? I have one daughter taking a college class, a son taking a latin class and two daughters taking a great books class. Now, I need to find time each day for us to meet together, just to read a classic book. I know it is more difficult as your kids get older, but reading together is a high priority for me. So, I will persevere to get our schedules to work. Looks like 8am in the morning will work for all of us.

Don't Buy Gas on Sept 3

This might be a little late, oh well!

I don't know if this will work, but thought I'd pass it along.

Forwarded message:

Don't Buy gas on September 3rd!!!!

Boycotting the gas company will decrease the price dramatically. Supposedly, if over half the US didn't buy gas for 1 day, the gas companies would be close to bankruptcy!!! So Lets show them how to lower gas prices. So send this to all your friends. We have to get the word out. Its NATIONAL DON'T BUY GAS DAY September 3rd !!!(just buy gas the day before so you will have no reason to buy gas on September 3rd !!!)

Ambleside Online Helps Victims

I used to keep up with the Ambleside group. You might be able to help them...

The Ambleside Online Advisory has created a free curriculum plan, AO-HELP, for families and relief workers who need emergency educational help for children in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. All books and materials necessary are available online for free. It requires no materials other than pencil and paper, and a Good Samaritan friend with access to a computer and a printer. It is designed to be user-friendly, even for those who have never taught, and suitable for a wide age range.

We offer AO-HELP in the hopes that it will fill a gap for the churches, support groups and other organizations that suddenly need to set up temporary schools for the evacuated children in their care who no longer have schools to attend, and also for families who wish to continue homeschooling during this crisis but do not have access to school materials.

We would greatly appreciate any help you can give us toward getting the word out quickly about AO-HELP to those in need.

We would also like to encourage churches and individuals to make copies of the e-texts required for implementing AO-HELP for those without computers. School supplies such as this can be sent to Project Noah for distribution to those in need. More information here: http://www.projectnoah.org/ .

Thank you so much for any help you can offer.

Grace & peace,

Hurricane Relief Efforts

One way you can help....

Subject: Disaster Relief

Greetings in Jesus' name fellow homeschoolers,

If the Lord is willing, I will be helping to organize some temporary, and
very basic schooling for the children at Shepherd's Inn in Port Acres. There
are 50-60 children there, most of which may be there for months as they wait
to find if there is anything remaining to go back to in New Orleans.

They will need readers, writing and grammer exercises, and arithmetic books
Reproducible arithmetic sheets would be best, but I will be trying to copy
things for each age group if permission is obtained from the publishers.

This is a wonderful opportunity to minister the Gospel of Christ while
meeting the needs of many hurting people. Please prayerfully consider any
way you can contribute to this need. The resident manager at Shepherd's Inn
suggested this as a need and it is an area in which homeschoolers may best
be able to meet it with the resources we have. So.......

If you have TIME to help with organizing some academics periods during the
day please contact:

Because of JESUS,
Veronica

Wal Mart helps with Hurricane Katrina Relief. They say they will donate $1 million to relief for hurricane victims.

(CNN/Money) - Wal-Mart said Tuesday that it closed more than 120 stores due to Hurricane Katrina while the world's largest retailer and some of its biggest rivals donated money and supplies to residents in affected areas along the Gulf Coast states.

Wal-Mart Stores said it would donate $1 million to the Salvation Army for relief assistance such as meals for victims and emergency and rescue personnel.

The retailer said it would also accept customer donations nationwide at all of its stores this week as well as credit-card contributions through walmart.com.

Supporting Wal Mart

I must say that Wal Mart is not my favorite store for several reasons. I even boycotted Wal Mart for an entire year when we lived in Texas - I was fed up with their lack of customer service. Now that we live in a very small town, Wal Mart is one of the few places to shop. Besides, the local Wal Mart is much better than those in Texas.

A few days ago I discovered a great reason to support Wal Mart . . . because the NEA is boycotting Wal Mart saying they need to wake up. Wal Mart is anti-public education. . . .YEA! Here's what the NEA had to say

Think you just got a bargain on those rolled back prices? Think again. You may have just helped break unions and dismantle public schools.

The company has drained billions from public coffers รข€” money that could otherwise fund schools. And the Walton family, multi-billionaires thanks to Wal-Mart and Sam's Club profits, contribute heavily to anti-public education efforts like private school voucher initiatives and anti-public educations PACs.
