Reading of the Past

The reading of all good books is like a conversatioin with the finest men of past centuries. Rene Descartes (1596-1650)

Descartes has said it so well: reading transports us to other times and people. Reading classics brings us face-to-face with greatness. When we read Shakespeare, we see into his thoughts, his insights and his times. When we read Homer, we see that people are the same yesterday and today. When we read Paul, we learn how we should live in light of eternity with our Lord and Savior. When we read Austen, we are given a delightful story and a lesson of the past.

What are you reading today? What are you learning from the past?
