I was responding to a post on Homeschooling is Life Blog and wanted to include some of it here, as well. These resources are an excellent example of my post earlier today encouraging moms to educate themselves with audio resources. I know these cd series have been instrumental in a better understanding of American history.
My favorite sources to learn more about the Revolutionary War are:
America: First 350 Years, by Steve Wilkins (cassettes/cd-mp3 and notebook)
Revolutions That Never Were: The Wars for American & Southern Independence, by Doug Wilson, Steve Wilkins - In these six lectures, Wilkins and Wilson make the case that the War for Independence was not revolutionary and that the War Between the States was truly revolutionary.
My husband speaks at homeschool conferences about the Revolutionary War and the War Between the States. His workshop is title Un-Revisionist History and usually gets people's attention since it is a bit un-politically correct. Most of his information comes from the sources listed above.
When I listened to these lectures, I began to re-think my view of American history and the causes/effects of each of these two wars. Don't buy either of these sets, if you don't want to think outside the box.
We sell the Revolutions series (6 cds) for $18.00 and another cd series called America's Wars (8 cds) for $24. I am working on getting the First 350 years back in stock in mp3 format. It would be one cd, which we can easily stock. If you decide you want any of these items, send me an e-mail (kerry{at}CurriculumConnection{dot}net).
