Today, it is very hard for us, budget-conscious people to buy expensive ornaments or other Christmas decorations. As an alternative cheaper method, I have three homemade crafts you can make using everyday household items. You can use these simple craft ideas for Christmas ornaments to send to family and friends.
1. Cute Cookie Ornaments: Find whatever cookie cutter designs you have and bake cookies in those shapes. Next, trim the tree with your cookies. If you don't have cookie cutters, you can try other methods. One example is by making your own hand-made pretzel from cookie dough. After you form and mold it, hang it on a Christmas tree branch and decorate it with ribbons.
Here are the instructions. Roll the dough to about 3 inches. Overlap both ends and form them to a classic Q-shaped pretzel design or any loop design. When the cookie pretzel is done baking, you can tie it with a ribbon and put it on the tree.
2. Paper Tree Decorations: Take several pieces of colored paper and cut out different Christmas tree designs. Let your kids personalize each cut-out tree with his name, color stickers, a picture, or drawing designs on the tree to look like ornaments. Line these up in your child's room to make a border or link them together and put them around the Christmas tree.
3. Custom Christmas Stockings: You can make your own custom Christmas stocking by using any material you can find in the house. Different fabrics and colors work best, especially brightly colored ones. To make it look cute, sew in bows, beads or colored ribbons. Why not personalize it by putting your kid's name? After making the stocking, get a piece of fabric that will act as a loop and sew that to the stocking. Hang it on the Christmas tree.
Not only are these homemade Christmas ornaments fun, they allow family interaction and expand your children's creative skills and ideas. In addition, it is more rewarding to hang up something you've made, than buying in some store shelf. Simple craft ideas for Christmas like these are memorable and enjoyable for the entire family. These handcrafted items are also great to send out as gifts to friends and relatives.
Before shelling out cash for some Christmas ornaments, scrounge around the house first. You'll never know what beautiful ornaments you can make from everyday things!
